How to add clicktag AS2, Flash Actionscript 2


This is how to add a clicktag in Flash AS2. In Flash Actionscript 2, the clicktag code must be placed on a button symbol or you will get a compile error.
This is how to add a clicktag in Flash AS2, Actionscript 2 step by step:

  1. Make sure your Flashfile is an AS2 file. Check File > Publish settings in the flash tab. Actionscript 2 code will not work in an actionscript 3 file.
  2. Add a new layer on top of your content/banner in the timeline.
  3. Draw a shape in the new layer wherever you want the clicktag to work.
  4. Select the shape with the black arrow tool, it should be marked with small dots.
  5. Go to Modify > convert to symbol, or press F8.
  6. Name the button and select Type : button. Press OK. (The symbol must be a button for clicktags in AS2, or you will get a compile error)
  7. Select the shape again (now a symbol – button) in the timeline. The marking should be a blue line around the button and no dots this time.
  8. With the button selected, open the actions panel window > actions or press F9.
  9. Write the code:
    on (release) {
    getURL(_root.clickTAG, '_blank');
    }

    Close the actions panel.
  10. To make the Clicktag transparent, select it in the timeline and go to the properties panel > Display > Blending > Alpha.
  11. Publish your flash movie and make the final swf by choosing File > publish preview > Flash or simply press shift + enter to publish your flash movie. You are done!
